MG Slash Zaku Phantom build retrospective

Before we jump into the post, I’d like to give a shout out to my Premium Bandai fixer, Joel at The Hangar Bay! Joel’s been my go-to for these hard-to-get kits for almost 3 years now and I don’t think I’ve seen any other store that carries as much stock as he does. If you’re interested in picking up any upcoming P-Bandai kits (Red Frame Flight Unit/Testament/Barbatos Expansion parts come to mind) please check out their online store and use discount code SAINTISM06 for 6% off your order!

Apologies but I had to cut my WIPs slightly short for this build due to some real life issues. This is techinally a “preview” since I haven’t actually finished the Slash Wizard pack yet.

Basically Victoria, Australia got put under Stage 4 lockdown due to increasing COVID-19 cases, meaning all retail and childcare had to shut down. Working from home has been especially challenging, especially now that I’ve got to take care of my son at the same time.

Not only that but while I was painting this kit my compressor decided to break down on me. I actually had to bust out my 13 year old compressor that I started out painting with, despite it slightly leaking air I managed to get at least the main MS across the line.

Anyway the Zaku is pretty much exactly the same as the Gunner Zaku Warrior, except you get head with an antenna and two shields, so no surprises there. I haven’t actually finished painting the Slash Wizard pack yet since I have some planning on the colours to do, but there are some really weird seams that I felt I should fix. Please stay tuned for a future WIP post on how I tackle that.

I gotta say I’m quite pleased at how this turned out, the colours are pretty much exactly how I wanted them to be. I think I’ll be reusing the same set of blues for the Duel Gundam Assault Shroud when I get around to building it.
